Product description

The Black Ice Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris designer morph) is a stunning and unique variety that combines the intense black coloration of the Black Ocellaris with the irregular, snowflake-like white pattern of the Snowflake Clownfish. This striking contrast of deep black, bright orange highlights, and jagged white bands makes it one of the most sought-after designer clownfish in the marine aquarium hobby. Hardy, peaceful, and adaptable, the Black Ice Clownfish is an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced reef keepers.

Size

  • Adult length: ~3–4 inches (7–10 cm).

  • Compact, oval body with bold, irregular white banding and darkened fins.

Behavior & Social Needs

  • Peaceful and community-friendly, though can become territorial as they mature.

  • Best kept singly, as a bonded pair, or in small harems in larger tanks.

  • Compatible with other peaceful reef-safe species such as gobies, blennies, tangs, and wrasses. Avoid aggressive fish like large damselfish.

  • May form symbiotic relationships with host anemones (e.g., Entacmaea quadricolor – Bubble Tip Anemone), though an anemone is not required.

Tank Conditions

  • Minimum tank size: 20+ gallons for a pair.

  • Temperature: 74–82°F (23–28°C).

  • pH: 8.1–8.4.

  • Salinity: 1.020–1.025 SG.

  • Setup suggestions: Reef-safe setup with live rock, hiding spaces, moderate flow, and open swimming areas. Perfectly suited for mixed reef aquariums.

Diet

  • Omnivorous and easy to feed.

  • Accepts high-quality marine flakes, pellets, and frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and chopped seafood.

  • Supplement diet with spirulina and algae-based foods to enhance health and coloration.

Lifespan & Hardiness

  • Hardy and disease-resistant, making it beginner-friendly.

  • Average lifespan: 8–12 years in captivity with proper care.
