Product description

The Amur Goby is a graceful and robust freshwater goby native to East Asia—spanning rivers from Japan and Korea to Taiwan and China. Reaching nearly 6 cm, its distinctive features include a slender brown body often bearing vertical bands, an eye-stripe from the snout, and a bright orange patch at the base of the tail. Males display ornate patterns: red-barred dorsal fins, wavy orange tail stripes, and scattered orange-red spots on the cheeks—creating a visually complex and engaging appearance.

Care Instructions

  • Tank Setup:

    • Use a medium-sized tank (at least 60 × 30 cm base) with fine sand or small pebbles and smooth stones.

    • Incorporate rocks or driftwood to create hiding spots and perching areas, mimicking their natural riverbed habitat.

  • Water Conditions:

    • Keep water clean and well-oxygenated; moderate flow is beneficial.

    • Maintain temperature between 16–20 °C (61–68 °F).

    • Neutral to slightly alkaline pH; moderately soft to soft water is acceptable.

  • Diet:

    • Omnivorous: accepts small live or frozen foods (like daphnia, brine shrimp), plus high-quality flakes or micro pellets.

  • Behavior & Tankmates:

    • Generally peaceful, though males may exhibit light territorial behavior; ample hiding places help minimize stress.

    • Best kept with similar-sized, non-aggressive species.

  • Maintenance:

    • Weekly water changes of 30–50% are recommended to maintain clarity and water quality.
