Barbus tetrazona "Fluorescence" – Fluorescent Tiger Barb (2-2.5 inches)

Product description

The Fluorescent Tiger Barb (Barbus tetrazona "Fluorescence") is a selectively bred variety of the Tiger Barb, notable for its glowing, neon-like body coloration under aquarium lights. Available in bright shades such as green, red, orange, and pink, these fish add a dazzling display of color and activity to freshwater tanks. Like other Tiger Barbs, they are energetic and schooling, but can show mild fin-nipping behavior if not kept in proper groups.

Size

Adult length: ~2.5–3 inches (6–7.5 cm).

Active, mid-water schooling swimmer.

Behavior & Social Needs

  • Shoaling species: Keep in groups of at least 6–8 to reduce aggression and encourage natural schooling.

  • Very active swimmers, best in lively community aquariums.

  • Good tankmates include other barbs, danios, rasboras, and tetras. Avoid slow, long-finned fish like angelfish or guppies.

Tank Conditions

  • Tank size: 20 gallons minimum for a proper school.

  • Temperature: 74–80°F (23–27°C).

  • pH: 6.0–7.5, with slightly acidic to neutral water ideal.

  • Setup suggestions: Provide planted areas and driftwood for cover, with open swimming zones and bright/moderate lighting to enhance fluorescent colors.

Diet

Omnivorous: Accepts flakes, micro pellets, and live or frozen foods including bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.

A protein-rich, varied diet enhances body glow and vitality.

Lifespan & Hardiness

  • Hardy and well-suited for beginners when kept in stable conditions.

  • Average lifespan: 5–7 years with proper care.
