Product description

The GloFish Galactic Purple Tiger Barb is a fluorescent, genetically modified variant of the common Tiger Barb, displaying a mesmerizing vivid purple glow that remains prominent under normal lighting—especially under blue or actinic LEDs. These barbs are energetic and bold, bringing vibrant movement and color to aquariums.

Care Essentials:

  • Temperament: Semi-aggressive and active. They may nip fins if kept in small groups, but schooling helps mitigate this behavior.

  • Schooling Needs: Keep in groups of at least 6 or more, though larger groups (8–12) are better for distributing energy and reducing aggression.

  • Tank Size: Minimum of 20 gallons, ideally 25 gallons or more to accommodate their lively nature.

  • Water Conditions: Maintain temperature between 72–79°F (22–26°C), pH around 6.0–7.5, and soft to moderately hard water.

  • Aquascape: Provide open swimming space and peripheral cover using plants or décor. Floating plants and shaded spots help them feel secure. Dark substrate enhances their fluorescence.

  • Lighting: Standard lighting works, but blue or actinic LEDs intensify their glowing purple coloration.

  • Diet: Omnivorous—feed high-quality flakes or pellets, supplemented with frozen or live foods like daphnia and bloodworms to boost health and glow.

  • Lifespan: With proper care, expect around 3–5 years, occasionally up to 6 years.

  • Tankmate Compatibility: Avoid pairing with slow-moving or long-finned species (e.g., bettas, angelfish). Best alongside fast-swimming mid-level and bottom-dwelling fish.
