🌟 Appearance

The Blue Eye Lemon Bristlenose Pleco is distinguished by its vibrant lemon-yellow body and striking blue eyes. Sub-adult males develop bristle-like appendages on their faces, which are more pronounced than those of females. This species is often mistakenly referred to as L144, but the true L144 is not commonly bred or seen in captivity. The L144a designation is used for this color morph. 

🏠 Habitat & Tank Setup

• Tank Size: Minimum of 30–40 gallons (113–151 liters)

• Substrate: Fine sand or smooth gravel

• Decor: Driftwood, caves, and rocks to provide hiding spots

• Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 72–86°F (22–30°C)

  • pH: 6.5–7.5

  • Hardness: 6–10 dKH

• Filtration: Strong filtration with high oxygenation; consider using powerheads or large airstones 

🍽️ Diet & Feeding

This species is primarily herbivorous and benefits from a diet rich in vegetable matter:

• Staple Foods: High-quality vegetable flakes, sinking algae wafers, and pellets

• Supplementary Foods: Blanched vegetables like zucchini, cucumber, and spinach

• Occasional Treats: Meaty foods such as bloodworms or brine shrimp can be offered sparingly 

🧠 Behavior & Tankmates

• Activity: Nocturnal; may become more active during the day once acclimated

• Social Behavior: Generally peaceful; males may be territorial with other males of the same species

• Tankmates: Suitable for community tanks with other peaceful species; avoid housing with aggressive or very large fish
