Origin & Habitat

• Native Range: South Asia, including India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.

• Natural Habitat: Slow-moving rivers, ponds, and marshes with dense vegetation.

• Size: Typically reaches up to 6 cm (2.4 inches) in length.

• Temperament: Peaceful and shy; best kept in pairs or small groups.

• Tank Size: Minimum 40–55 cm (16–22 inches) in length.

• Water Temperature: 22–28°C (72–82°F).

• pH: 6.0–7.5.

• Hardness: 4–10 dGH.

• Aquascaping: Provide dense planting with floating plants to mimic natural habitat.  

🐠 Behavior & Tankmates

• Schooling: Best kept in pairs or small groups; avoid keeping multiple males together due to territorial behavior.

• Tankmates: Compatible with other peaceful species such as Neon Tetras, Corydoras, and Rasboras.

• Compatibility: Avoid keeping with fin-nipping or aggressive species.  

🍽️ Diet

• Diet Type: Omnivorous.

• Food: High-quality flakes, micro pellets, and live/frozen foods like brine shrimp and daphnia.

• Feeding Frequency: Once or twice daily, offering only what they can consume in 2–3 minutes.  

🧬 Breeding

• Spawning Behavior: Egg scatterers; males build bubble nests at the water's surface.

• Fry Care: After hatching, feed fry infusoria or finely crushed flake food until they are large enough to accept larger foods.
