Product description

Description & Behavior
The Ember Tetra, also known as Hyphessobrycon amandae, is a tiny and vividly colored nano-tetra species originating from the Araguaia River basin in Brazil. It features a translucent orange-red body, often complemented by a red outline around the eyes—making it a captivating addition to planted aquariums.

These tetras are peaceful and schooling in nature. For optimal health and behavior, keep them in groups of at least 6, though ideally 10–15 or more in larger, planted tanks.

Tank & Water Conditions

  • Tank Size: Minimum of 10 gallons, though nano setups starting at 5 gallons may work with diligent maintenance and small school sizes.

  • Temperature: 72–82°F (22–28°C).

  • pH: Slightly acidic to neutral—5.5–7.5, or more specifically 6.5–7.0.

  • Water Hardness: Very soft to moderately hard.

  • Filtration & Lighting: Gentle filtration—like sponge filters—is recommended, along with a dark substrate and soft lighting to enhance their coloration.

Diet & Feeding
Ember Tetras are omnivorous micropredators that thrive on a varied diet. Offer fine flakes or micro-pellets, supplemented with live or frozen foods like daphnia, brine shrimp, and finely chopped bloodworms.

Tankmates & Behavior
Ideal for peaceful community tanks, Ember Tetras should be paired with similarly small, non-aggressive species like rasboras, microrasboras, and dwarf corydoras. Avoid larger or highly active fish that may overshadow these tiny tetras.

Lifespan
Typically, Ember Tetras can live 2–4 years under good care.
