GloFish Green Tetra (Electric Green Skirt Tetra) 2.5–3 inches

The GloFish Green Tetra is a genetically enhanced variant of the Black Skirt Tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi), bioengineered to display a brilliant fluorescent green color. This vivid glow remains throughout their life and is especially striking under blue or actinic lighting.

Size

Grows to approximately 2–2.5 inches (5–6 cm) as adults.

Behavior & Social Needs

Peaceful, schooling fish—best kept in groups of 6 or more for natural behavior and stress reduction.

💡 Hobbyist note: Smaller groups may cause mild chasing, but adding more helps diffuse aggression.
 

Tank Conditions

• Tank Size: Minimum 15–20 gallons for a school, larger tanks encouraged.

• Temperature: 72–80 °F (22–27 °C).

• pH: 6.0–7.5; water: soft to moderately hard.

• Lighting: Normal lighting works, but blue/actinic LEDs make the green fluorescence stand out brilliantly.

• Decor Tips: Dark substrate with live plants enhances their neon green glow; floating plants provide shade and security.

Diet

Omnivorous—accepts tropical flakes and micro-pellets, with live or frozen treats (brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms) boosting both color and vitality.
