GloFish Purple Tetra (Galactic Purple) – ~2.5–3 inches

This is a genetically enhanced variant of the Black Skirt Tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi), engineered to display a glowing, vibrant purple color that remains vivid throughout its life. Its fluorescent coloration is most striking under blue or actinic lighting.
 

Size

Typically reaches around 2–2.5 inches (≈ 2½") at full adult size.
 

Behavior & Social Needs

These tetras are peaceful schooling fish. They're best kept in groups (minimum 6) to encourage schooling behavior, reduce stress, and prevent dominance issues.
 

Tank Conditions

• Tank Size: Ideally 10 gallons or more for a small group, but 20 gallons is recommended for a comfortable school.

• Temperature: 72–82°F (22–28°C)

• pH: Range of 6.0–7.5, hardness moderate (KH 4–8).
   

• Lighting & Decor: Normal lighting is adequate, but blue/actinic LEDs will make their purple fluorescence pop. A dark substrate and carpets of live or floating plants will enhance their glow and provide a secure environment.
   

Diet

Omnivorous. Feed a varied diet including quality tropical flakes or pellets, supplemented with occasional live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms for optimal health and coloration.
 

Lifespan & Hardiness

Also hardy and beginner-friendly. Average lifespan is around 3–5 years, though they may live up to 7 years with excellent care.
