The Golden Mahseer (Tor putitora) is a distinguished cyprinid fish native to the Himalayan river systems of South Asia, such as the Indus, Ganges, and Brahmaputra basins. Celebrated for its golden-hued body, reddish-golden fins, and powerful silhouette, this species can reach up to 2.75 m in length and weigh up to 54 kg—though most individuals in trade are far smaller . An emblematic gamefish and culturally significant symbol (including being Pakistan’s national fish and the state fish of several Indian states), it fascinates enthusiasts with both its beauty and heritage value 

Care Instructions

• Tank Setup: Requires very large, well-filtered tanks or ponds with strong flow or oxygenation—preferably replicating fast, rocky stream environments.

• Water Conditions: Prefers cool, clear water (approx. 13–30 °C), high dissolved oxygen, and stable pH. Ideal habitat features include gravelly or rocky substrate 

• Diet: Omnivorous and opportunistic—feeding on algae, insects, small crustaceans, plant matter, and fallen fruit 

• Behavior & Size Consideration: Extremely large and powerful; juveniles only may fit large aquarium setups. Adults are better suited for ponds or outdoor water systems.

• Conservation Note: Classified as Endangered due to habitat destruction and overfishing—supporting ethical sourcing and conservation breeding is strongly encouraged
