πŸ“¦ Description

The Guilin Loach is a slender, less-common sucker-type loach native to southern China. It grows to about 5–8β€―cm (2–3β€³) and features a yellowish body with subtle dark or golden banding and a flattened ventral surface. This peaceful species grazes on biofilm and detritus and is well-suited to clean, well-oxygenated community tanks where they can forage along smooth rocks.

🧰 Care Instructions

  • Tank Size: At least 20β€―g (β‰ˆ75β€―L), with longer base dimensions to facilitate gentle swimming and flow.

  • Water Flow & Oxygen: Prefers moderate current; use filters or powerheads to maintain clear, oxygen-rich water.

  • Water Conditions:

    • Temperature: 68–75β€―Β°F (20–24β€―Β°C)

    • pH: 6.5–7.5

    • Hardness: Soft to moderate (~4–12β€―Β°dGH)

  • Substrate & Decor: Sand or fine gravel with rounded stones, driftwood, and occasional leafy plants. Provide ample hiding spots and grazing surfaces.

  • Diet: Omnivorous loach; accepts sinking pellets, algae wafers, and live/frozen foods such as bloodworms or daphnia. Also grazes on natural biofilm.

  • Social Behavior: Peaceful and somewhat shy. Best kept in groups of 4 or more to increase confidence and reduce stress.

  • Maintenance: Perform weekly water changes (20–30%), maintain stable quality, and retain some biofilm rather than over-cleaning surfaces. Secure lid recommendedβ€”this species may attempt occasional jumps.
