The Kansu Loach (Sinibotia robusta) is a robust, active fresh‑water loach native to the Gansu region of China. It grows up to 10–12 cm, featuring a golden‑brown body with dark vertical bands, an elongated head, and a slender elongated form. Known for its playful behavior, it is social and active, making it a dynamic addition to a community aquarium.

• Tank Size: Minimum 40 g (≈150 L); larger tanks preferred to accommodate its activity level.

• Water Conditions:

  • Temperature: 68–77 °F (20–25 °C)

  • pH: 6.5–7.5

  • Hardness: Soft to moderate (4–12 dGH)

• Flow & Filtration: Moderate current preferred; robust filtration essential to maintain clean, oxygen-rich water.

• Substrate & Decor: Soft sandy substrate recommended. Provide smooth stones, rocks, driftwood, and hiding spots. Avoid sharp décor to protect sensitive barbels.

• Diet: Omnivorous–feeds on sinking pellets, bloodworms, brine shrimp, and vegetable matter like zucchini or peas; will also scavenge leftover food.

• Social Behavior & Tank Mates: Best kept in groups of 4 or more to establish social hierarchy and reduce stress. Behaves playfully with shoaling mates. Compatible with peaceful tetras, danios, barbs, and other social loaches.

• Maintenance: Regular weekly water changes (20–30%) recommended. Tank should be well-covered—this loach can jump. Stable, mature aquaria are ideal for long-term health.
