The Longfin Tetra (Brycinus longipinnis), also known as the African Long-finned Tetra or Longfin Characin, is renowned for its elongated, flowing fins and vibrant coloration. Males typically exhibit more pronounced fin extensions and vivid colors compared to females. This species is native to the western coastal regions of Africa, from The Gambia to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, inhabiting both large rivers and estuarine mixohaline waters. Β
Size: Typically reaches up to 12.5 cm (5 inches) in length.
Temperament: Peaceful and active; best kept in schools of at least six individuals to promote natural behavior and reduce skittishness.
Habitat: Prefers aquariums with plenty of open swimming spaces and gentle filtration. Using a dark substrate and providing plants or driftwood can enhance their natural appearance.
