• Tank Size: Minimum 20 gal (~75 L); wider, river-style setups preferred.

• Water Flow & Quality: Strong current and excellent oxygenation are critical.

• Water Conditions:

  • Temperature: 10–30 °C seasonal range in wild; optimal 18–24 °C (64–75 °F)

  • pH: 6.5–7.5

  • Hardness: Soft to moderate (~2–10 °dGH)

• Substrate & Decor: Gritty-sandy bottom with rocks and driftwood. Provide open flow and grazing surfaces.

• Diet: Omnivorous benthic feeder—offer sinking pellets, small invertebrates (e.g. bloodworms, daphnia), and occasional algae.

• Behavior: Peaceful among conspecifics and other river fish. Best kept with similar-sized, non-aggressive species. Keep in small collections (e.g. 1 male + 2 females). Females rarely available.

• Maintenance: Pristine, mature tank with frequent partial water changes (20–30%) is essential. Avoid over-warming and maintain seasonal fluctuation if possible.
