Parazacco fasciatus – Freshwater Asian Minnow (~13 cm)
A slender, laterally compressed minnow with a slightly downturned mouth and a tapered body. Typically found in clear streams, it's distinguished by a subtle lateral band and a dark spot at the base of its forked tail. It closely resembles Parazacco spilurus, as they're now considered the same species.
Natural Habitat:
Native to small, benthopelagic (mid-to-bottom) zones of freshwater streams across southern China and Vietnam. It thrives in clear, oxygen-rich waters at low elevations.
Conservation Status:
Assessed as Least Concern, indicating stable wild populations. It was previously grouped under P. spilurus, classified as Data Deficient.
