Parazacco "Meizhou" (Predaceous Chub variant) – ~13 cm
A slender East Asian minnow known for its elongated body, gentle dorsal arch, pale brown back with reddish side accents, white belly, and a distinctive dark spot at the base of the tail fin. These traits match the Parazacco spilurus species, which is found across parts of China and Vietnam.
Habitat & Behavior:
Naturally inhabits small, subtropical freshwater streams and rivers—occasionally in mildly brackish water—typically in benthopelagic zones (mid to near-bottom water layers). Most populations have an IUCN status listed as Data Deficient, though its synonym Parazacco fasciatus is considered of Least Concern.
Size:
Maxes out around 13.4 cm standard length, based on recorded specimens.
Tank Setup:
-
Size: A 60–80 L (~15–20 gal) aquarium is appropriate for small groups—more space is ideal for natural behavior.
-
Decor: Provide smooth substrate, rocks, and moderate planting to mimic stream environments.
-
Flow & Filtration: Gentle, clear water flow with good filtration and oxygenation.
Water Conditions:
-
Keep in temperate water (around 20–24 °C).
-
Maintain neutral pH and moderate water hardness, aiming for clarity.
Diet:
An omnivorous and active feeder—accepts high-quality flakes or micro pellets, plus live or frozen additions like daphnia, brine shrimp, or bloodworms.
Behavior & Tankmates:
-
Generally peaceful but may become shy if outnumbered or overcrowded—best kept in schools of 6+.
-
Compatible with other small, peaceful freshwater species like danios, rasboras, or small barbs.
