Puntius tetrazona var. Green – Green Tiger Barb (2–2.5 inches)

Product description

The Green Tiger Barb (Puntius tetrazona var. Green) is a lively freshwater fish with a greenish-golden body accented by four vertical black stripes and bright red fins. A schooling and energetic species, it adds movement and interest to community tanks. While generally peaceful in groups, it may nip fins if kept in too small numbers or with long-finned tankmates.

Size

Adult length: ~2–2.5 inches (5–6 cm).

Active, mid-level schooling swimmer.

Behavior & Social Needs

  • Shoaling species: Keep in groups of at least 6–8, larger schools reduce fin-nipping behavior.

  • Energetic swimmers that thrive in community setups with open swimming space.

  • Compatible tankmates include other barbs, danios, and tetras. Avoid slow, long-finned fish like angelfish.

Tank Conditions

  • Tank size: 20 gallons minimum for a proper school.

  • Temperature: 74–80°F (23–27°C).

  • pH: 6.5–7.5, neutral to slightly acidic is ideal.

  • Setup suggestions: Include plants, rocks, and driftwood for hiding spots, with open swimming areas and moderate lighting.

Diet

Omnivorous: Eats flakes, micro pellets, and will readily accept live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.

A varied diet helps maintain vibrant coloration.

Lifespan & Hardiness

  • Hardy and beginner-friendly if kept in stable water conditions.

  • Average lifespan: 4–6 years under good care.
