🐟 Appearance

The long-tail variety of the Cherry Barb is a selectively bred strain known for its extended, flowing caudal fin. Males display a vibrant deep cherry-red coloration, especially during breeding, while females are generally lighter, with a bronze-brown hue. The long tail enhances their elegance and makes them particularly striking in aquariums.

📏 Size

• Adult size: 2.5–3 inches

• Males are typically slimmer and more vividly colored.

• Females tend to be fuller-bodied with slightly less intense coloration.

🧭 Behavior

• Peaceful schooling fish, best kept in groups of 6 or more.

• Males may spar lightly for dominance, but aggression is rare.

• Active swimmers, occupying mostly the mid to lower levels of the tank.

• Minimum tank size: 20 gallons (larger preferred for schools).

• Water temperature: 72–79°F (22–26°C)

• Soft to moderately hard water.

• Provide plants, driftwood, and open swimming space.

🍽️ Diet

• Omnivorous. Accepts flakes, micro-pellets, frozen and live foods.

• Especially enjoys daphnia, brine shrimp, bloodworms, and vegetable matter (spirulina, blanched spinach).
