Product description

Appearance & Behavior
The Silvertip Tetra—also known as the Silver-tip or Dwarf Tetra—is a graceful little characin from Brazil's São Francisco River basin. Males boast a coppery-golden body with striking white fin tips and a mid-tail black stripe. Females show paler colouring and rounder bodies. They are friendly, schooling fish that thrive in groups and stay active in the middle to upper tank zones.

Tank Conditions

  • Min Tank Size: 10 gallons for small groups; 20+ gallons recommended

  • Temperature: 72–82 °F (22–28 °C)

  • pH: 6.0–7.8 (slightly acidic to neutral)

  • Hardness: 2–15 dGH

  • Setup Tips: Use dark substrates, dim lighting, floating plants, and quiet water flow to mimic their native environment and accentuate their colours.

Diet & Feeding
They’re omnivores that appreciate varied meals—high-quality flakes or micro pellets supplemented with frozen or live foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms are ideal.

Social Behavior
These tetras are peaceful but can display mild territorial behavior during spawning. A school of 6 or more ensures better coloration and less stress. They are generally great for community tanks.

Lifespan
With proper care, they can live 5–8 years, a relatively long time for small tetras.
