Product description

Sinibotia pulchra is a slender, flexible loach growing up to approximately 10 cm total length. Its body exhibits 6–10 broad dark bars that often split in larger individuals, with lighter interspaces forming a striking “12‑banded” appearance. It inhabits subtropical low- to medium‑flow streams in China and Vietnam, resting on bottom substrate amid rocks. The loach curls and moves through crevices with surprising agility. It is peaceful, curious, and compatible with other hillstream and community species. Aquarists value it for its elegant movement and attractive banding.

🧰 Care Instructions

  • Tank Size: Minimum 20 gallons (~75 L). A longer footprint and shallow tank are ideal.

  • Water Flow & Oxygenation: Moderate to strong unidirectional flow (~5–10× tank turnover) and high dissolved oxygen.

  • Water Conditions:

    • Temperature: 68–75 °F (20–24 °C)

    • pH: 7.0–8.0

    • Hardness: Medium (~up to 12 °dGH)

  • Substrate & Decor: Smooth sand or fine gravel with many smooth stones and slate slabs. Provide ample hiding spots under rocks and logs.

  • Diet: Omnivorous. Accepts sinking pellets, algae wafers, and live/frozen foods such as bloodworms and daphnia. Naturally grazes benthic algae and biofilm.

  • Behavior & Tank Mates: Peaceful, bottom-dwelling species. Best kept in a small shoal of 4–6 individuals to encourage confident behavior. Compatible with other calm fish of similar requirements.

  • Maintenance: Keep aquarium clean and well-filtered. Weekly 20–30% water changes. Do not over-clean grazing surfaces; preserve biofilm. A mature, stable tank system benefits this species.
