Behavior & Social Needs

• Very peaceful schooling fish, best kept in groups of 6 or more—ideally 8–10+—to display natural, active behavior and vibrant color. 

• Strongly community-friendly and gets along well with other small, peaceful species like tetras, rasboras, Corydoras, and shrimp 

Tank Conditions

• Tank Size: Minimum 10 gallons (38 L); 20 gallons (75 L) preferred for larger schools. Temperature: Ideal range is 60–75 °F (15–24 °C)—excel even in cooler, unheated tanks. 

• pH: Acceptable range 6.0–8.0, with neutral being optimal. 

• Hardness: Moderately soft to moderate.   

• Ideal Setup: A planted tank with gentle flow, darker substrate to highlight their gold tones, and open areas for swimming.

Diet

• Omnivorous: Eats high-quality flakes or micro-pellets, along with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, or bloodworms to enhance coloration.
